Import Data

 
The Import menu option available through the File Menu is used to import data into Genota Forms.
 
       
 
This area allows for several import options:
 
People
This allows a user to import information about people into Genota Forms from files created with other software packages. When selected, the following dialog will appear:
 
 
 
Select the external file source from the options available.
 
If the source file is GENERIC, i.e. a spreadsheet, text  or database file, when the OK button is  clicked the user will be guided through the import process by the IMPORT WIZARD.
 
If the source file is a LEGACY FAMILY TREE ® family file then an OPEN FILE dialogue will display enabling the user to select the family file from which the person records are to be imported.
 
IMPORTANT: When importing a LEGACY FAMILY TREE® family file details for both the Persons and Locations are imported. If  a LEGACY FAMILY TREE® family file is loaded multiple times persons where no SURNAME (Family Name) or GIVEN NAMES will be duplicated as there is not a full complement of data available to ascertain uniqueness of each person.
 
Locations
This allows a user to import information on Locations into Genota Forms from files created with other software packages. When selected, the following dialog will appear:
 
 
 
Select the external file source from the options available.
 
If the source file is GENERIC, i.e. a spreadsheet, text  or database file, when the OK button is  clicked the user will be guided through the import process by the IMPORT WIZARD.
 
If the source file is a LEGACY FAMILY TREE ® family file then an OPEN FILE dialogue will display enabling the user to select the family file from which the location records are to be imported.
